The MUSC Children’s Health Pediatric Diabetes Care Coordinator- Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist reports to the Ambulatory Manager of Operations. Under general supervision and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, this role coordinates and provides age specific and developmentally appropriate care for pediatric diabetes patients across Ambulatory spaces. This role serves as the primary educator and leader for diabetic care coordination. Shall support organizational efforts as needed that include access, quality improvement, literature review, patient advocacy, and outpatient staff development. Additionally, will establish educational programs required to meet identified patient, staff, and organizational goals. Assume responsibility for maintaining adherence to Joint Commission/American Diabetes Association Advanced Diabetes Certification, The American Diabetes Association’s Outpatient Diabetes Education Recognition Program (ERP), and evidenced based standards of practice.

Minimum Training and Education:Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing, Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state, and one year related nursing experience required, preferred pediatric diabetic or endocrine experience. Or a Bachelor’s degree in a nutrition focused field, and a Registered Dietician by the Commission on Dietetic Registration from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with one year of experience. Must eligible for SC licensure. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the American Association of Diabetes Educators required within one year of hire. An advanced knowledge of pediatric diabetes concepts and skills that include but are not limited to, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring devices, and use of various advanced diabetes technology preferred.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state or Registered Dietician by the Commission on Dietetic Registration from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association (AHA) or recognized equivalent.
